DES MOINES,Iowa – Additional showers are expected across Iowa through the weekend and into next week, continuing a pattern of daily rainfall.
A low-pressure system over South Dakota is driving the unsettled weather, with energy rippling across the Midwest. As of Saturday evening, scattered showers were restricted too southwest Iowa. The Des Moines metro area is expected to remain dry through at least 10-11 p.m.
Later tonight, showers will drift east, primarily south of Interstate 80,and spread northward into eastern iowa by Sunday morning. Scattered rain is possible through lunchtime, while western Iowa should remain mostly dry.
Sunday is forecast to be sunnier with more spotty rainfall and temperatures climbing toward 80 degrees.
However, the reprieve will be brief. More showers and storms are anticipated next week. Storms may develop in northern Iowa and southern Minnesota on Monday, moving southward overnight.
From Tuesday through at least Thursday, another low-pressure system will bring the potential for daily showers and a drop in temperatures back into the 70s.
