Google has launched a new desktop search app for Windows, offering a streamlined way to find information across a user’s computer, Google Drive, and the web. Announced Tuesday via the Google Search blog, the app is currently available to personal accounts through google’s Search Labs experiment program. Users can activate the app with an Alt + Space shortcut.
The submission features a Chrome-like installation process and requires a Google account login. Integrated with Google Lens, the app enables visual search capabilities, allowing users to search for images on their screen and translate text. Google highlighted an example where users can select a math problem and utilize the app’s AI Mode to recieve assistance in finding a solution.
Functionality mirrors Google’s web search interface, providing options to filter results by “All,” “AI Mode,” “Images,” “Videos,” and more. The app’s complete search capabilities draw comparisons to Apple’s redesigned Spotlight feature on macOS, which similarly consolidates file, application, and web searches.
