CSN Launches AI Certificate & Degree Program – Las Vegas

Las‌ Vegas, NV – The College of Southern Nevada⁤ (CSN) is now offering a new certificate and degree program in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning, responding to a rapidly growing job⁤ market. The ​program,⁤ which began this semester, is designed for both ⁣recent high school graduates and ⁣current college students, as well as those looking to upskill in the field.

“To make sure that the AI is relevant, obviously⁤ we all know that AI is very relevant these⁢ days,” said Naser Heravi, a professor and chair at‍ CSN.

The program allows students to earn a one- or two-year certificate‍ or degree, with ‌options to transfer credits to four-year universities. CSN is also developing a two-year Associate of Science degree in AI and Machine Learning. ‍

The curriculum focuses on key skills including prompt engineering, machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing. According⁢ to the ‌Bureau of Labor Statistics, AI-focused positions, such as researchers and scientists,⁢ currently average $140,000 ​annually.

Investment bank ⁤Goldman Sachs estimates that AI could impact ‍300 million jobs involving data ⁣processing ​or ​information gathering, highlighting the need for a skilled workforce.

“We’re going to need…high-skilled people who ⁢can‌ do the critical thinking that AI really can’t do-that innovation and ⁣creating that AI can’t do,” Heravi explained.

the cost of ‍the CSN certificate or degree is $4,000, with financial aid available. ‌CSN joins at least ⁢a dozen other colleges and universities ‍now offering formal AI majors.
