Mesa seafood Staple, Other Arizona Restaurants Close Doors

PHOENIX, AZ – august 5, 2025 – Several long-standing Arizona restaurants have recently announced closures, marking a shift in the state’s dining landscape. Seafood Market and Resturant in Mesa, a beloved local institution, shuttered its doors on July 22nd after 34 years, citing owner Pablo Reynoso’s retirement. The closures also include a Maryvale Sizzler location after nearly four decades and West Alley BBQ & Smokehouse in Chandler, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.


Seafood Market and Restaurant

Seafood Market and Restaurant, located at 1318 W. Southern Ave. in Mesa, closed after serving the community for over three decades.Owner Pablo Reynoso announced his retirement via a Facebook post, expressing gratitude for the years of support. The restaurant was known for its fresh seafood offerings and its role as a neighborhood gathering place. reynoso’s son, Pablo jr., will continue his father’s culinary legacy by incorporating some of the restaurant’s signature dishes into the menu at his own establishment, so Cal Fish Taco Co., located at 338 N Gilbert Rd, Gilbert, AZ 85234.

Sizzler

The Sizzler restaurant at 7545 W. indian School Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85033, ended its nearly 40-year run in the Maryvale area. This closure leaves only one Sizzler location remaining in Arizona, situated in Flagstaff at 102 N. Leroux St, Flagstaff, AZ 86001.

West Alley BBQ & Smokehouse

West Alley BBQ & Smokehouse, a popular spot in downtown Chandler at 111 W. Chandler Blvd, Chandler, AZ 85225, closed its doors shortly after celebrating its seven-year anniversary. The restaurant had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.An Instagram post from July 18th (https://www.instagram.com/p/DMRYsXupa4A/) indicated plans for a reopening, with a minority owner reportedly negotiating to buy out the current owners.The bankruptcy petition details the financial challenges facing the business.
