Zimbabwe Police Appeal for Help Identifying Seven Murder Victims in Harare Mortuaries

September 3, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

The Zimbabwe Republic Police have launched a public appeal for assistance to identify seven unidentified murder victims whose bodies remain in Harare and Chitungwiza mortuaries. According to police records covering separate incidents between June 2025 and May 2026, the deceased include a young boy and six adults discovered across various municipalities.

Municipal Jurisdictions and Mortuary Locations

The bodies are currently housed across three distinct facilities: Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals Mortuary, Sally Mugabe Hospital Mortuary, and Chitungwiza Hospital Mortuary. Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi detailed the recovery locations and physical descriptions to aid identification. According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the youngest victim is a male juvenile aged between 12 and 13. His body was discovered on 11 October 2025 in a pumpkin field behind Zororo Bar, near the Mukuvisi River, and is currently held at Sally Mugabe Hospital Mortuary.

Timeline of Discoveries Across Harare and Surrounding Areas

The caseload spans nearly a year of separate homicide investigations across the metropolitan region. On 23 September 2025, police recovered the body of an adult female aged roughly 24 to 27 at Pioneer Cemetery in Mbare, Harare. Found barefoot and wearing a maroon top and skirt, her remains are also held at Sally Mugabe Hospital Mortuary.

Additional discoveries trace across commercial and residential sectors. On 5 July 2025, an adult male around 25 years old was found beside a boundary wall in a grassy area at the corner of Conald and Bell Streets in the Graniteside Industrial Area. He wore a khaki jacket, black trousers, and white sneakers, with his body placed at Sally Mugabe Hospital Mortuary. Earlier that summer, on 14 June 2025, an adult male approximately 30 years old was found along a dust road in Muguta, Epworth, wearing a black Puma tracksuit, cream T-shirt, white shorts, and black socks. That body rests at Chitungwiza Hospital Mortuary.

As investigators moved into 2026, two more adult males were found in April. One man, aged 25 to 35, was discovered along Baines Avenue in Harare on 29 April 2026, wearing a brown, striped cream jersey and a blue T-shirt, with his body held at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals Mortuary. Another male adult, approximately 30 years old, was found dead in Damafalls Phase 1, Ruwa, wearing black boxer shorts; his remains are also at Parirenyatwa. The seventh victim, an adult male, was discovered on 26 May 2026 inside a makeshift shack in a bushy area at Eddie Pfugari Properties in Brookdale, Bindura, and transferred to Parirenyatwa.

Investigation Status and Public Contact Channels

The Zimbabwe Republic Police urge anyone with missing relatives matching these descriptions to visit the relevant medical facilities or contact law enforcement. “Members of the public who have relatives reported missing and who may fit the descriptions above” should visit the relevant hospitals or contact police for assistance with identification, Commissioner Nyathi stated. Authorities have designated specific communication channels for tips. The public can reach the National Complaints Desk by calling 0242 703 631 or via WhatsApp at 0712 800 197 as forensic teams continue their inquiries into the homicides.
