WSU Football Player Shot: Suspect Identified, Arrest Warrant Issued

WSUFootball Player Shot Following Apple Cup ⁣Weekend

PULLMAN, Wash. – A ⁤Washington State University football player was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the abdomen early Sunday morning following an altercation at an off-campus apartment complex, according to Pullman Police Department reports.

Police ‌responded to a shooting at ‍the ⁤Aspen Heights Apartments around ‌1:47 a.m. after⁤ the Apple cup ⁣game between⁤ WSU and ⁤the University of Washington. Upon arrival, officers found the redshirt freshman offensive lineman suffering⁢ from the injury. ⁤He was transported to Pullman Regional ⁤Hospital where he underwent surgery to remove the bullet.

initial investigation ‌indicates the shooting occurred after a dispute at a party. The player told police he and friends were asked to ⁣provide security at the gathering. He intervened in two⁤ separate altercations -‍ one ​involving an assault on a woman ​in the backyard, and another involving a second woman – before⁤ being shot. The player reported limited recollection of events following the shooting.

Witnesses reported seeing a suspect and ⁣associates leaving the scene in ​a dark⁢ sedan.A 9mm pistol was recovered at the⁤ apartment complex. Police identified the suspect through social media ‌and confirmed his affiliation with the ​University of Washington and⁣ residence in Tukwila‌ with‌ assistance from UW Police.

A felony warrant has been ⁢issued for the suspect on charges of first and fourth-degree assault. Authorities have⁤ not yet released the suspect’s name.

WSU released a statement confirming the incident and‌ stating the student-athlete is ​recovering with⁤ family support. ⁣The university is providing resources to students impacted by the event, including the Counseling and Psychological⁤ Services (CAPS) team at 509-335-4511 ​and ​the Dean⁤ of Students Office.

Due ‌to the ongoing investigation, WSU has‌ directed all further inquiries to the Pullman Police Department.
