Vietnamese Cinema Takes Center Stage at 30th busan International Film Festival
BUSAN, SOUTH KOREA – September 30, 2025 – Vietnamese films experienced a notable boost in international visibility at the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), with a series of events designed to connect Vietnamese filmmakers with the global film community. The festival showcased the growing potential of Vietnam‘s film industry and fostered stronger ties between Vietnam and South Korea.
The initiative, a collaboration between the Vietnamese Film Development association (VFDA), BHD, idol Nation, and Key Association, featured industry seminars and a high-profile “Vietnam Night” event. Approximately 100 leading figures from the film and cultural sectors attended the seminar, where the development direction of the Vietnamese film industry and potential new projects were presented to an international audience.
Park Kwang-soo, Chairman of BIFF, lauded Vietnam’s cinematic talent, stating, “Vietnam has many outstanding talents, and there is enough potential to develop an independent and powerful film industry faster than any other country.”
Vietnamese Ambassador Vu Ho echoed this sentiment,emphasizing film’s role as “a bridge between the past,the present,and the future and a medium that deepens the friendship between Vietnam and Korea.”
“Vietnam Night” proved to be a standout event at the festival, drawing over 650 guests, including prominent Korean celebrities such as Jung Joon-ho, Park sung-woong, Lee Yun-mi, Min Kim, and Choi Jae-sung. The event benefited from strong support from the government, sponsors, and media.
The festival also highlighted new Vietnamese film projects, including a partnership with Make the Film, the producer of the upcoming Vietnamese release MY Friend is a Murder. This collaboration signifies a growing exchange between the Korean and Vietnamese film industries.
Actor Park sung-woong, attending the event, expressed his admiration for the “passion and acting power of Vietnamese actors.” Idol Nation added, ”I think there is an opportunity for unlimited cooperation between the two countries.”
As BIFF celebrates its 30th anniversary, the increased presence and cultural exchange activities surrounding Vietnamese cinema mark a pivotal moment in the strengthening relationship between the two nations and signal a new era of cinematic collaboration.
