UN security council to meet to discuss growing concerns over Russian provocations in eastern Europe – Europe live | Russia

New York, NY – Growing international concern over a series of Russian military incursions is set to dominate a United ​Nations Security Council meeting today. ​The session was called following a⁤ widely condemned violation of Estonian airspace by Russian fighter jets on Friday, marking the ⁣latest in a string of provocative actions by Moscow in Eastern Europe.

This is the second time in just ten days the Security Council ⁣will convene to address Russia’s escalating assertiveness in the region. The previous​ meeting was triggered by reports of Russian drones operating within Polish airspace.

“[The issue is that] Russia, a permanent member of the Security Council, has vrey blatantly violated the principle of territorial integrity, is behaving aggressively in⁢ the same way more broadly, and this is not a one-time incident,” Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna ‍told Postimees.

On Friday, Russian ⁢fighter jets briefly entered Estonian airspace. The Swedish Air Force released images (see above) of a Russian MIG-31 fighter jet flying over⁢ the Baltic Sea following the ⁢incident.‌ Adding to the ​tension,another unidentified Russian aircraft was detected flying⁤ over the Baltic sea over the weekend without filing a flight plan,prompting a response from NATO allies Germany and Sweden.
