Tyla Nominated Twice for 2025 MTV VMAs

Breaking: The 2025 MTV Video Music awards (VMAs) will be held on September 7th at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, marking a return to the New York metropolitan area after several years. this year’s ceremony introduces two new award categories: best Country Artist and Best Pop Artist.

The VMAs, a celebration of the year’s best music videos, have been a cornerstone of pop culture as their inception in 1984 at the Radio City Music hall in New York City. The awards show, produced by Jesse Collins Entertainment, has evolved significantly, reflecting changes in the music industry and visual media. Past hosts have included iconic figures like Madonna, Michael Jackson, and more recently, Doja Cat.

South African singer-songwriter Tyla, nominated for several VMAs in 2024, has recently discussed her rapid ascent to international stardom. In an interview on Apple Music’s Dotty Show, Tyla expressed feeling unprepared for the immediate success of her hit single, “Water,” released in July 2023.

“I kind of had a way I wanted to do this and a way I thought things would’ve happened, but God obviously rushed that process for me,” Tyla stated. She admitted to wishing she’d had more time to refine her artistry before gaining widespread recognition. “There were a lot of times where I felt like, damn,I wish I had a little bit more time before the world saw my rough drafts – before the world saw me figuring things out.”

Tyla’s breakthrough coincided with a supporting role on Chris Brown’s 2023-2024 “11:11” tour, which included performances across North America and Europe. She noted that the tour and the viral success of “Water” propelled her into a fast-paced learning environment. “Because when Water blew up, I was still learning myself as an artist. I never had that much experience – until, obviously,I was thrown in the deep end with the Chris Brown tour, and then Water blew up.”

The addition of Best Country Artist and best Pop Artist categories reflects MTV’s commitment to recognizing a broader range of musical genres.Nomination details and voting procedures for the 2025 VMAs will be announced in the coming weeks on MTV’s official website, https://www.mtv.com/.
