Following the former president’s lawyer’s letter, Donald Trump received a swift rebuke from The New York Times. The letter threatened a lawsuit against the newspaper, citing “unpatriotic” reporting on the U.S. bombing of Iran. The Times had reported on a Pentagon analysis that undermined Trump‘s claims about the strike’s success.
The Gray Lady, as the paper is known, defended its reporting. Its attorney, David McCraw, wrote, “No retraction is needed. No apology will be forthcoming. We told the truth to the best of our ability. We will continue to do so.”
The Controversy: Leaked Intel and Legal Threats
The core of the disagreement concerns a leaked intelligence assessment. This assessment reportedly revealed that strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites would only delay the country’s nuclear program, contrary to the former president’s initial claims. CNN also reported the intel and said they had also been threatened with legal action.

Pete Hegseth, the Defense Secretary, criticized a former Fox News colleague, an ally of Trump, accusing the media of being against the former president. He specifically targeted Jennifer Griffin when she questioned the report’s assessment.
The Aftermath: Demands and Accusations
Alejandro Brito, the attorney, demanded that the outlet retract and apologize for their coverage. The former president took to Truth Social and called for reporters from both the Times and CNN to be fired. This escalation highlights a continuing pattern of hostility between Trump and the media.
