Trump Suggests Russian Drone Incursion into Poland May Have Been an Accident
WASHINGTON D.C. – Former President Donald Trump stated Wednesday that the recent penetration of Russian drones into Polish airspace “could have been a mistake,” expressing dissatisfaction with the situation while also suggesting hope for de-escalation in the conflict with ukraine.
Speaking to reporters outside the White House, trump said, “It could have been a mistake. I am dissatisfied with everything that is related to the whole situation. But there is hope that it will stop it all,” according to a report from Bloomberg. He further indicated he would condemn Russia “for being close to this line,” adding, “I don’t like it. I’m not excited about it.”
The comments came after a important number of Russian drones entered Polish airspace on Wednesday, prompting intervention from Polish and allied aircraft. The Russian Ministry of Defense acknowledged the drone incursions but claimed they where unintentional and not directed at Poland during attacks on Ukraine.
Polish authorities have recovered 16 Russian drones following the incident. Most were found in eastern Poland by soldiers, police, and security personnel, though two landed within tens of kilometers of Warsaw.
