Trump & Newly Elected NYC⁢ Mayor Mamdani‍ Signal Cooperation After Contentious Campaign

WASHINGTON D.C.- ‌ In a⁢ surprising turn of events, President Donald Trump and New ⁤York City’s incoming mayor,⁣ Zohran Mamdani, emerged from a meeting Friday expressing a willingness to work together,⁢ despite weeks of ⁤sharp attacks leveled by the President against the Democrat during the campaign.

The meeting followed ‍a campaign season marked by Trump repeatedly ‌labeling Mamdani a “communist” and ⁢threatening to withhold federal‌ funding should the 30-year-old of⁢ Indian ⁢origin – the frist Muslim elected mayor⁣ of the largest city in the United States – win the election.

Despite the prior rhetoric, both leaders described ⁢the meeting as productive. “We just had a great ‌meeting, a very productive meeting,”⁢ Trump stated following⁢ the discussion. mamdani echoed the ⁤sentiment, saying, ‍”I ⁣enjoyed the conversation, and I look forward to working together.”

Trump characterized Mamdani as “a very rational ‌man” who “wants to see New ‍York regain‌ its greatness,” adding, “He has the ‌opportunity to do‍ something truly exceptional for New York” and pledging federal‍ support: “We will help ⁣him.⁤ The more successful he is, the happier I will be.”

Mamdani, who focused his campaign⁤ on ‌the cost of living and criticized Trump’s⁣ prioritization of the‌ wealthy, highlighted the⁣ shared goal of improving New‌ York. “What I really appreciate⁢ about‍ the president is⁣ that our meeting focused not on the areas‍ of disagreement, of ⁣which there are many, but also ⁤on the common goal we have to⁣ serve New Yorkers,” he said.

The shift‌ in tone comes after ⁢Mamdani’s victory ‌on November 4,securing over 50% of the ⁤vote with a record turnout of more than 2 million voters⁤ - the highest as 1969. Trump had previously endorsed Mamdani’s opponent, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

the two leaders‌ reportedly⁢ discussed issues including housing, new construction, and food prices.⁤ Trump concluded by stating, “I would feel very, very pleasant in New ‍York” under Mamdani’s leadership.
