President Donald Trump posted an AI-generated video to his Truth Social account on Monday depicting himself as a player on the U.S. Men’s Olympic hockey team physically assaulting a Canadian player, following Team USA’s 2-1 overtime victory over Canada in the gold medal final at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.
The video, reportedly created using the Grok AI tool, shows a digitally de-aged Trump in his signature navy suit and red tie skating across the ice, body-checking Canadian players and ultimately punching an opponent. The clip culminates with a digitally rendered Trump scoring the winning goal and being mobbed by celebrating U.S. Players. A soundtrack of Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” accompanies the action.
The post quickly drew widespread criticism, with social media users labeling it “beyond pathetic,” “delusional,” and “ridiculous.” Experts in political science have characterized the video as absurd and childish, and not befitting a world leader. Collin Anderson, a clinical assistant professor in the political science department at the University at Buffalo College of Arts and Sciences, told HuffPost the post was “absurd, childish, and not befitting [of] any world leader, let alone the President of the United States.”
The timing of the post, just before the team’s scheduled visit to the White House on Tuesday, has as well raised questions. During a phone call with the team following their win, President Trump invited the men’s team to the State of the Union address and a White House celebration before mentioning the U.S. Women’s hockey team, who also won gold at the Olympics. This omission has been noted as a potential hypocrisy, given the President’s past inconsistencies in acknowledging the achievements of all U.S. Athletes.
The video also appears to be a direct response to a 2025 comment made by former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who stated, “You can’t accept our country – and you can’t take our game.” The U.S. Victory over Canada marked their first Olympic gold in men’s ice hockey since the 1980 “Miracle on Ice.”
The White House has not issued a statement clarifying the intent behind the President’s post. As of Friday, February 27, 2026, the Team USA hockey team is scheduled to visit the White House as planned.
