Tropical Storm Humberto Forms in Atlantic, Dominican Republic on Alert
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) has issued an alert regarding the formation of Tropical Storm Humberto, the eighth named storm of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season. The storm’s development was reported Wednesday, prompting monitoring and preparedness measures across the region.
As of 4:35 PM local time, the center of Tropical storm Humberto was located approximately 885 kilometers (550 miles) east/northeast of the Sotavento Islands, positioning it at latitude 20.1° North and longitude 54.9° West.
Storm track and Intensity
Humberto is currently moving towards the west/northwest at a speed of 24 kilometers per hour (15 mph). Forecast models indicate the storm will gradually turn towards the northwest in the coming days, wiht a projected decrease in its forward speed.
Maximum sustained winds are currently at 65 km/h (40 mph), with higher gusts. INDOMET forecasts a progressive strengthening of the storm over the next several days. Tropical storm-force winds currently extend up to 75 kilometers (47 miles) from the storm’s center.
The minimum central pressure was estimated at 1007 millibars,according to INDOMET.
