BREAKING: Trump Brokers Peace between Cambodia & Thailand, Announces Sweeping Trade Deals Across Southeast Asia
Kuala lumpur, Malaysia – October 27, 2025 - In a stunning diplomatic breakthrough, former President Donald Trump has successfully mediated an end to a long-standing border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand during a visit to Malaysia for the ASEAN conference. Alongside the peace agreement, Trump announced a series of notable trade deals with Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam, dramatically lowering tariff rates and securing billions in purchases of American goods and technology.
The resolution of the border dispute, lauded by the leaders of both Cambodia and Thailand, was a central achievement of Trump’s visit. The former president also sharply criticized the United Nations, implying its previous efforts to resolve the conflict had failed.
The trade agreements represent a major economic win for the U.S.A deal with Cambodia will reduce tariff rates on most clothing exports - vital to the Cambodian economy – to between 7% and 15%, down from previously threatened rates of 49%. Thailand and Malaysia will also see their tariff rates lowered to 19%, a significant decrease from 36% and 36% respectively.
“Reciprocal” tariff rates across all three nations could ultimately fall to “zero percent” for certain products, according to White House statements.
Specific commitments secured by Trump include:
* Cambodia: Agreed to purchase 10 Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes for its national airline.
* Thailand: Committed to $2.6 billion in additional purchases of U.S. agricultural products (including corn and soybeans), $5.4 billion in American energy (including liquified natural gas), and 80 U.S.-made aircraft for $18.8 billion.
* Malaysia: Pledged to buy 30 planes and invest $150 billion in U.S. technology hardware, including semiconductors, alongside annual purchases of $3.4 billion in liquified natural gas, $204 million in coal and telecom products, and $70 billion in investments within the U.S.
* vietnam: Pledged to buy 50 Boeing planes for $8 billion and $2.9 billion in U.S. agricultural goods.
Beyond trade, new critical minerals agreements with Thailand and Malaysia outline plans for future investments and a “pricing framework including price floors or similar measures” designed to counter Chinese export controls. These agreements follow a landmark deal signed last week with Australia to address “non-market policies” from Beijing.
Trump’s arrival in Kuala Lumpur was marked by a celebratory welcome, including a dance with native performers on the tarmac after a 23-hour flight from Washington,D.C. with a refueling stop in Qatar, where he met with the country’s emir to discuss his Gaza peace plan, which reportedly ended two years of war on October 10th.
On the sidelines of the summit, Trump also met with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to discuss a potential reversal of his previously imposed 50% tariff on goods from Brazil.
The trip coincides with ongoing trade negotiations between the U.S. and China, with a potential deal between the world’s two largest economies on the horizon ahead of Trump’s scheduled meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea on Thursday.
