Sony May Re-Evaluate PC Ports Following Modest Sales, Report Suggests
A recent rumour, originating from industry analyst Jez Corden, suggests Sony could scale back its strategy of porting PlayStation 5 exclusives to PC.The speculation arises following the companyS latest quarterly report, which revealed that multiformat game sales - including PC releases – accounted for only approximately 2% of the division’s overall income. This figure includes revenue generated from Helldivers 2 on Xbox for over a month.
While Sony has seen success with titles like Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War on PC, the relatively small financial impact of these releases, coupled with the investment required for porting, may be prompting a re-evaluation of the strategy. The potential shift could affect gamers anticipating PC versions of future PlayStation exclusives and impact Sony’s broader revenue diversification efforts.
Push Square reports the information stems from a YouTube live stream and subsequent discussion on Reddit and X (formerly Twitter). The publication notes, however, that it doesn’t believe there’s “much to this story,” anticipating Sony will likely continue porting titles selectively, focusing on live service games where it makes financial sense.
