Russian Strikes Cripple Ukrainian City, Targeting Energy Infrastructure
Kyiv – Overnight attacks by the Russian military have severely impacted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, causing widespread power outages adn fires. The city of Chuhuyiv in the Kharkiv region has been notably hard hit, with Mayor Halyna Minayeva reporting over ten strikes that have “paralyzed” almost all parts of the city. Restoration of power is delayed pending examination of explosion sites.
The attacks come despite a recent meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Approximately 17,000 customers in the Chernihiv region are without electricity following a Russian attack on an energy facility in the koryukivka district, according to regional energy suppliers. Fires were also reported in the Zaporizhzhia region by Governor Ivan Fedorov, with no injuries reported.
Ukraine’s Air Force stated Russia launched 164 combat drones and three missiles overnight, successfully intercepting 136 drones. Impacts were recorded in twelve Ukrainian locations, though damage from falling debris remains a concern.
Meanwhile, Russia’s defense Ministry claims to have downed 41 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory and the Black Sea, including three over the Moscow region. Rosawiatsiya, the Russian aviation authority, has imposed flight restrictions at nine Russian airports as a precautionary measure. Ukraine has consistently targeted Russian territory as part of its defensive operations, though the scale of damage differs substantially from the devastation caused by Russian attacks within Ukraine.
