Pizza Hut Faces Potential Sale as Sales Decline
Jakarta – Yum! Brands, teh parent company of Pizza Hut, is evaluating a potential sale of the pizza chain amid ongoing declines in sales, according to a report from CNBC International on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
Yum! Brands CEO Chris turner stated the Pizza Hut team has “worked hard to overcome business challenges,” but indicated further action, such as operating outside of yum! Brands, may be necessary.
Recent quarterly reports show a 1% decrease in sales at Pizza Hut locations within the United States, impacting the company’s overall global performance. while international sales remain positive, the U.S. market is a key driver of the brand’s success.
in contrast, other Yum! Brands restaurants are performing well. Taco Bell saw a 7% increase in sales at existing locations, and KFC experienced 3% growth despite challenges in the U.S.market.
Pizza Hut currently contributes approximately 11% of Yum! Brands’ total operating profit. The chain operates roughly 20,000 stores worldwide, including 6,500 in the United States.
Competition in the pizza sector is intensifying, with Domino’s Pizza and Papa John’s gaining market share. Domino’s reported a 6% sales increase last month, fueled by promotional strategies.
Economic factors, including high inflation and a slowing job market, are also impacting consumer spending. Turner noted U.S. consumers are ”cautious in facing uncertain economic conditions.” Similar challenges are occurring in the UK, where Pizza Hut plans to close half of its restaurants due to declining customer traffic. The pizza market is also seeing increased competition from businesses adapting more quickly to evolving consumer preferences, particularly among younger generations.
Despite the pressures on Pizza hut, Turner highlighted the continued strong sales performance of Taco Bell and other Yum! Brands businesses. Yum! Brands has not yet announced a timeline for a final decision regarding Pizza Hut’s future.
