Shocking Child Neglect Case: Police Report Woman Starved Child for Five Days
Columbia, MO - A Missouri woman is facing felony charges following allegations of severe physical abuse and starvation of a juvenile, according to the Boone County sheriff’s Department. Breashia Jwantae Grant was arrested last Friday after neighbors reported witnessing a child attempting to hide from passing vehicles in the 5600 block of North Rocky Fork Drive.
responding officers discovered the child, who reported fleeing ongoing physical abuse. The child’s name and age have been withheld to protect their identity.
Court documents detail accusations that Grant repeatedly struck the child with a phone charging cord, inflicting visible injuries. Deputies observed “fresh red swelling” on the child’s left arm, covered in “thin” marks described as either swirling or straight lines, alongside scars and scabs indicating repeated abuse. The child explained lifting their left arm to block Grant during attacks, accounting for the disproportionate scarring on that limb.
According to the affidavit, the child stated Grant struck them with the cord, pushed them to the ground, kicked them in the ribs multiple times, and punched them in the head with a closed fist the day prior to their escape.
The abuse extended to denying the child food as punishment. The child reported being deprived of food for five consecutive days two weeks prior to the incident, and again for two days at the beginning of the current week.
Grant is currently being held in the Boone County Jail without bond, facing charges of felony first-degree child endangerment and felony third-degree domestic assault. Her next court appearance has not yet been scheduled, according to public records available at the Boone County Sheriff’s Department website.
