Alysa Liu Qualifies for Grand Prix Final After Skate America Victory
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Reigning world champion Alysa Liu secured her place in the Grand prix Final with a gold medal performance at Skate America on Sunday, capping a whirlwind three months of international competition. Liu’s victory,her first at a Grand Prix event,combined with a second-place finish at the Cup of China,earned her one of six singles spots in the women’s field for the december final.
Liu’s Olympic season began in Norwood, Massachusetts, at a U.S. Figure Skating pre-season training camp. Since then, the skater has traversed continents, competing in Bergamo, Italy at a Challenger Series event, and traveling 1,200 miles southwest of beijing to Chongqing, China for the Cup of China Grand Prix.
The demanding schedule included a quick turnaround from China to New York City for U.S. Olympic Committee media days previewing the 2026 Winter Olympics, followed by a brief respite of just over two weeks at her home in the San Francisco Bay Area. Liu then continued her journey to Lake Placid,New York,for the Saatva Skate America Grand Prix.
Following her Skate America triumph, Liu will next travel to Nagoya, Japan, for the Grand Prix Final in two and a half weeks.
