Taylor Swift Releases “The Fate of ophelia” Music Video Following Record-Breaking Album Debut
Taylor Swift has released the music video for “The Fate of Ophelia” on YouTube, days after premiering it as part of her theatrical event, The Release Party of a Showgirl. the video’s release comes on the heels of a monumental debut for Swift’s latest album,The Life of a Showgirl, which sold 2.7 million copies on its first day (October 3) in the United States, according to Luminate data.
The premiere of “The Fate of Ophelia” was a key component of The Release Party of a Showgirl, a theatrical event that topped the box office this weekend. The screening included the video premiere,behind-the-scenes footage,Swift’s commentary on all 12 tracks from The Life of a Showgirl, and a first viewing of each song’s lyric video. A surprising cameo in the video itself-a loaf of Swift’s homemade sourdough bread-was also revealed during the event.
Swift previously described the album cover, featuring her in a bathtub in a bedazzled dress, as representative of a moment of respite after intense performance. “You’ve done all this work… Anything that could’ve gone wrong, you sidestepped. You finally get back, what do you do? You take a bath,” she explained. “That’s what I do in those situations. It’s like that moment of relaxation… That’s really the story of this album.”
The Life of a Showgirl‘s opening-day sales mark Swift’s biggest week ever and the second-largest sales week for any album since Luminate began electronically tracking data in 1991, trailing only Adele‘s 25. Further details on the album’s first-week sales and streaming performance will be released in the coming days.
