Trump Visit Prompts Heightened Security, Potential Disruptions at Ryder Cup
Farmingdale, NY – September 24, 2025 – Anticipation for the 45th ryder Cup, set to begin Friday at Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, New York, is tempered by warnings of potential delays and restrictions stemming from a planned visit by U.S. President Donald Trump. The declaration follows a delayed start to the recent US Open men’s final in New York, where security protocols surrounding Trump’s attendance caused a 49-minute hold-up.
More than 50,000 spectators are expected over the three days of competition between the european and U.S. golf teams. The PGA of America has advised attendees to anticipate increased security measures and additional restrictions at the Bethpage Black course, notably on friday when President Trump is scheduled to arrive, reportedly in the early afternoon.
Organizers have cautioned that publicly accessible areas both inside and outside the golf course might potentially be temporarily restricted or blocked before, during, or after the President’s visit. Spectators should also prepare for security screenings comparable to those at airports around the clubhouse and grandstands.
“Guests should calculate temporary delays in the movement in publicly accessible areas inside and outside the Bethpage Black golf course,” organizers stated.
The heightened security isn’t solely due to the presidential visit. Authorities are also responding to the recent fatal attack on right-wing extremist US activist Charlie Kirk, leading to an increased assessment of potential threats.
“We plan as if there were threats,” Stephen Udice, head of operations of the New York State Police for the Ryder cup, explained to the BBC.
The United States Tennis Association (Usta), which organized the US Open, previously requested broadcasting channels refrain from showing any disturbances or reactions to the President’s presence, a standard procedure according to the Usta. The Ryder Cup is scheduled to run from September 26th to 28th.
