Dmitry Medvedev,Vice-President of Russia’s Security Council, has responded sharply to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s ultimatum demanding Russian President Vladimir Putin end the war in Ukraine within a 10-12 day timeframe. Medvedev asserted, “We are not Israel or Iran,” in a post on X, highlighting Russia’s distinct geopolitical standing.
Medvedev cautioned Trump against escalating rhetoric, stating, “Every new warning is a threat and a step towards war, not between Russia and ukraine, but with his country. Do not take the path of the atmosphere of Na`san.” He emphasized that Russia is neither Israel nor Iran, implying that such ultimatums are ineffective against Moscow.
Trump had previously expressed disappointment with the lack of progress in resolving the Ukraine conflict and announced his decision to shorten the deadline for a peaceful settlement from 50 days to a mere 10 to 12 days, effective instantly. He stated at a press conference following a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in thornbury, Scotland, “I will determine a new deadline ranging from 10 to 12 days starting today. There is no use in waiting more.”
Trump characterized his initial 50-day period as an act of “generosity,” but noted the absence of any discernible progress. He further indicated that additional sanctions would be imposed on Russia if a deal to halt the Ukraine war was not reached, adding, “I am not interested in talking to Putin again.”
