Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Elite Chip: Performance, AI, and 6G Advances

Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon​ X2 Elite⁢ and X2 Elite​ Extreme ‍Laptop Chips,Boosting AI ‍capabilities

HONOLULU,HI – December 5,2023 – ⁤Qualcomm today ‍announced its⁢ next ⁣generation of laptop chips,the ⁢Snapdragon X2‍ Elite ​and X2 Elite Extreme,designed to deliver meaningful performance and efficiency gains,especially in artificial intelligence⁤ tasks. The​ new processors represent a major step forward in Qualcomm’s ambition to compete directly with ⁤Intel and⁢ AMD in‌ the Windows PC market.

These chips⁣ are built on a​ new Oryon CPU architecture ‌developed by‍ Nuvia, ‌a company Qualcomm⁣ acquired in 2021.Nuvia was founded by former Apple engineers and is renowned for its CPU‍ designs focused on performance and ‍power efficiency. Qualcomm claims ⁣the Snapdragon‍ X2⁤ Elite and X2 Elite Extreme offer ⁤faster performance and improved battery life compared to competing ‍x86 processors.

The Snapdragon X2 Elite features 12 high-performance cores, while‌ the​ X2 elite Extreme boasts 14 cores. both chips integrate Qualcomm’s Hexagon NPU, which​ the company ​says ​delivers⁢ up to⁣ 15 TOPS (trillions of ‍operations ⁤per ⁣second) for on-device AI processing. This ‍enhanced AI capability is intended to accelerate⁢ tasks ⁣like natural language processing,image recognition,and video editing.⁤

qualcomm highlighted the chips’ integrated Adreno ‌GPU, promising considerable improvements in graphics performance. The company ⁤also emphasized ‌the chips’ connectivity features, including ⁣support ⁣for Wi-Fi 7 and 5G⁣ cellular‌ connectivity.

Laptops powered by the Snapdragon X2 Elite are expected to be available in mid-2024. Qualcomm anticipates these new chips will enable‍ a new class of thin,⁤ light,​ and powerful Windows laptops ‌with all-day battery⁤ life and advanced AI features.
