RussiaS readiness is the key to a potential peace summit, according to a proposal supported by the united States and Ukraine.
Ukraine has been actively advocating for an immediate ceasefire for months, a stance that aligns with the US-backed proposal. Though, Russia maintains that a leaders’ meeting can only occur after negotiators have finalized agreements. This position has led Ukraine and its European allies to express skepticism about Russia’s genuine interest in peace, accusing Moscow of deliberately delaying the process, an accusation the Kremlin refutes.
Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated his desire for a “long and lasting peace on good foundations that would satisfy both Russia and Ukraine, and ensure the security of both countries,” emphasizing its significance for European security. Putin made thes remarks during a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Valaam Island, a location known for its historic Russian monastery.
Earlier broadcasts showed Putin and Lukashenko interacting with monks and participating in prayer services at the Valaam Monastery, a site where they have convened on multiple occasions previously.
