Prince Harry Visits Ukraine, Meets with King Charles Amid Cancer Treatment
KYIV, Ukraine - Prince Harry made a surprise visit to Ukraine on Friday, meeting with wounded soldiers and civilians impacted by Russia‘s ongoing war. The trip marked a rare public appearance following a private meeting with his father, King Charles III, in London – their first encounter in 19 months.
The visit underscores Prince Harry’s continued support for Ukraine and it’s people as the conflict enters its third year. It also comes as King Charles undergoes treatment for an unspecified form of cancer, with Harry offering a brief public update on his father’s condition. The Duke of Sussex’s presence in Ukraine highlights the enduring international focus on the humanitarian crisis unfolding there and the resilience of those affected by the war.
During his visit, Prince Harry traveled to Lviv, where he toured the Superhumans Center, a specialized orthopedic clinic providing extensive care to wounded military personnel and civilians. the center offers prosthetic limbs, reconstructive surgery, and vital psychological support free of charge to those in need.
Harry’s last trip to Ukraine was in September 2023. He has previously expressed his solidarity with the Ukrainian people and condemned Russia’s invasion.
Following the visit to Ukraine, Prince Harry briefly spoke to reporters regarding his father’s health, stating that King Charles was “doing great” as he continues treatment. The meeting between father and son took place after Harry flew to the UK following the proclamation of the King’s diagnosis. The encounter is viewed as a potential step toward repairing strained relations within the royal family, which have been challenged as prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, stepped back from royal duties and relocated to California in 2020.
