jakarta – A Pakistani animator is preparing to pursue legal action against teh creators of the Indonesian animated film Red and White: One for All, alleging unauthorized use of his artwork. Junaid Miran, an independent artist, claims elements of his work were incorporated into the film without his permission.
Miran’s claim surfaced following the film’s release, which has reportedly been viewed by 2,341 people and generated an estimated Rp. 93.6 million (approximately $6,000 USD) in box office revenue based on a Rp. 40,000 ticket price. However, Miran faces important financial hurdles in pursuing legal recourse, as international lawsuits require considerable funds for legal fees, administration, and travel expenses.
To finance his legal battle,Miran has launched a crowdfunding campaign through Patreon, offering 10 digital artworks in 6K resolution themed around Indonesian and Red and White culture for approximately USD $5 (Rp. 82,000). He assures buyers they are free to use the artwork without further royalty payments.
“If we reach the target of specific quantities for legal costs, then I promise to live this thoroughly,” Miran stated in a YouTube video. he intends to hire a lawyer, formally submit a demand, and represent himself in court with the support received.
Miran expressed confidence in the digital community, stating, “I will do it with the belief that I am not alone, that the whole community stands behind me and believes in me.” He views the online community as potential “comrades” in this effort to defend his artistic rights.
