Powerball App Jackpocket Faces Scrutiny in Ohio as $1.4 Billion Jackpot Looms
Columbus, OH - September 3, 2025 – As the Powerball jackpot climbs to a staggering $1.4 billion, Ohio lottery players are finding they cannot utilize the Jackpocket app to purchase tickets, raising questions about the legality and operation of the popular third-party service. While Jackpocket maintains it operates legally within the state, it is indeed not affiliated with the official Ohio Lottery and has faced scrutiny regarding its compliance with retailer terms and conditions.
Jackpocket fulfills users’ orders through a licensed lottery shop, Winners Corner, according to Frizzi-Babb, a representative for the company. Though, the app’s operational status comes amid increasing regulatory concerns surrounding lottery courier services. The Texas Lottery Commission recently banned the purchase of lottery tickets through such apps in February, citing a lack of oversight.
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, with a cash value payout of $634.3 million. To win, players must match all five white balls (chosen from numbers 1-69) and the red Powerball (chosen from numbers 1-26). Players can select their own numbers or opt for a randomly generated selection.A “Power Play” option, available for an additional $1, can multiply non-jackpot winnings.
Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m.ET, broadcast live and streamed on the Powerball website. It’s critically important to note that Jackpocket is distinct from another third-party lottery app, Jackpot.com, which remains available in Ohio.
Frizzi-Babb did not respond to a request for comment regarding how Jackpocket violated the Ohio Lottery commission’s retailer terms and conditions.
