MENLO PARK, CA ‌- September 15, 2024 ‍ – Meta appears to have prematurely revealed two upcoming ⁣smart‌ glass products: a ⁣new ⁢Ray-Ban branded pair featuring a display and a wraparound ⁤Oakley model dubbed “Sphaera.” An ⁢unlisted video, since removed,⁤ showcased both devices, along with a⁣ wristband intended to control the glasses, according to a report from UploadVR. This accidental leak comes just days ‌before meta’s Connect event, where the company is now expected to ⁣officially unveil these products.

The Ray-Ban glasses, branded “Meta | ⁢ray-Ban” and ⁤labeled “Display” in the leaked video, feature the display integrated into the right lens. Footage‌ suggests users will be able to interact with Meta AI through voice commands, view maps for navigation, translate text in real-time, and⁢ respond to messages using ⁣hand gestures tracked by ⁢the‍ accompanying wristband.

this wristband is reportedly‌ equipped with surface electromyography (sEMG) technology, which interprets signals from hand movements to control ‍the device. ⁣CNBC reported in‌ August that Meta’s codenamed “Hypernova” glasses would utilize this technology. The⁤ leaked video appears to demonstrate the sEMG ⁢functionality in action.

The second leaked device, the oakley “Sphaera” glasses, features a camera⁤ positioned on the nose bridge. Meta already offers translucent versions of the HSTN Oakley glasses, which are currently ⁤available for purchase.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is scheduled to host⁤ the Connect keynote at 8PM ET on Wednesday, where these new smart glasses are anticipated to be ‌formally announced.‍ The Verge will provide live ⁣coverage⁢ of the event.
