MENLO PARK, CA ⁣-⁢ September 18, ​2024 – Meta today ‍announced the immediate availability of preorders for its next-generation smart glasses: the Ray-Ban Meta Gen⁣ 2 and the new Oakley ‍Meta Vanguard. The devices,​ co-developed with Ray-Ban and Oakley respectively, integrate AI capabilities for hands-free photo and video capture,⁤ live streaming, and music listening.

These launches mark a significant step in Meta’s push to mainstream wearable AI​ technology. The updated glasses⁤ aim to address previous limitations – particularly battery life – and ⁢offer enhanced ⁢features for a ​broader range of users, from everyday consumers to outdoor enthusiasts. The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 builds on the ⁣foundation ‌of the first generation, ‌while the Oakley Meta Vanguard introduces a rugged, performance-focused design geared towards active lifestyles.

The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2‌ is available ​for order now from Meta,Best Buy,and ⁢Ray-Ban,starting‌ at $379. Meta claims the updated glasses deliver up to ​eight hours of ⁣battery ⁤life on a single charge, ⁣doubling the four-hour battery ⁣life of the ​previous generation. The included charging case can recharge the glasses to 50 percent ⁢capacity in 20 minutes⁢ and provides an additional 48 hours of battery life. The camera records video in 3K ⁤at⁤ 30fps, 1440p at 30fps, and ⁣1200p at 60fps, with ⁣a ‌maximum recording length⁣ of three minutes per clip.

The ​Oakley Meta Vanguard is ‍available for preorder ‌at Meta, Best ⁤Buy, and Oakley for $499, ​with a launch date of October ⁤21st.​ Featuring Oakley’s⁣ signature wraparound design, the Vanguard ​incorporates a 12-megapixel, 122-degree‍ camera in the⁢ nose ⁤bridge and an Action Button for quick⁣ access to camera modes. It offers up to nine hours of battery life, an IP67 ⁤water and dust resistance rating, and integration with Garmin devices.
