Meta AI Arrives in Europe After Delay

Meta AI, the artificial intelligence from the parent company of Facebook, instagram, and WhatsApp, has officially launched in Austria. The rollout in Europe was delayed compared to the United States, where it was introduced in 2023, due to the European Union’s stricter data protection regulations.

Initially, some features, such as analyzing group chats and transcribing audio messages, were limited or unavailable in germany.

What Does Meta AI Do?

Meta AI functions as a virtual assistant designed to assist users with writing, brainstorming, and conducting searches. Accessible through the WhatsApp search bar or as a separate chat with a distinctive blue-violet icon, the AI can also be integrated into group conversations.

This integration reflects Meta’s broader strategy to incorporate artificial intelligence into the daily routines of users across WhatsApp,Facebook, and instagram.

Deactivating Meta AI: What are the Options?

Entirely deactivating or deleting Meta AI within WhatsApp is not currently an option. However, users can limit the bot’s visibility through several methods:

Archiving the Chat

  • Android: Long-press the chat with Meta AI and select Archive.
  • iPhone: Swipe the chat to the left and tap Archive.

Muting the Chat

  • Mute the bot before archiving to prevent notifications from Meta AI.
  • This will silence notifications when Meta AI responds or is available.

Deleting the Chat

  • Remove the conversation with the AI through the chat options.
  • While the feature remains in WhatsApp, the chat will no longer be immediately visible.

Why Can’t Meta AI Be Deactivated?

Meta explains that the AI is a core function deeply integrated into the app’s architecture. it serves as a direct gateway to the company’s AI-powered services. Therefore, a complete opt-out is unlikely, at least without external tools or modifications.
