PSG Stuns Bayern Munich, Advances in Club World Cup

Injuries and ejections mar the match for the German side.

**Bayern Munich** fought valiantly but ultimately fell 2-0 to **Paris Saint-Germain** in the Club World Cup. The match saw late goals, injuries, and dramatic red card ejections.

Match Summary

**Désiré Doué** broke the scoreless tie with a left-footed goal in the 77th minute. **Ousmane Dembélé** then sealed the victory with a goal in stoppage time.

Late in the second half, both **Willian Pacho** and former **Bayern** player **Lucas Hernández** were ejected following red card challenges.

Adding insult to injury, **Bayern** also lost **Jamal Musiala** (lower leg) and **Josip Stanišić** (upper leg) to injuries in the first half. **Musiala**’s injury is expected to keep him out of play indefinitely.

Goalkeeping Performances

**Gianluigi Donnarumma** recorded five saves, keeping a clean sheet for **Paris Saint-Germain**. Some **Bayern** fans may hold him responsible for **Musiala’s** injury.

**Manuel Neuer** made three critical saves, helping to keep **Bayern** in contention. However, he may blame himself for the two goals conceded, especially as this was Thomas Müller’s final match for **Bayern**.

Despite the loss, **Neuer**, at 39, continues to perform at an elite level. Only time will tell if he can match **Gianluigi Buffon** and play into his late forties; **Buffon** played professionally until age 45 (ESPN).

Midfield Battle

**Aleksandar Pavlović** outplayed his counterpart, **Joshua Kimmich**, controlling **PSG’s** midfield. His box-to-box range proved crucial, and it was unfortunate he was replaced after receiving no help on **Doué’s** goal.

Winger Impact

**Michael Olise** challenged **Nuno Mendes** with a series of dribbles and passes. His right-footed shot, saved by **Donnarumma**, was **Bayern’s** best chance.

With **Musiala** sidelined, the French winger will likely become the primary focus of **Bayern’s** attack.

Coman’s Contributions

**Kingsley Coman**, playing against his former club, contributed significantly on both offense and defense. He covered for **Konrad Laimer** and **Stanišić**, and troubled **Achraf Hakimi** in attack.

**Coman** was unable to repeat his heroics from the 2020 final, but he has made a case to be the starting left winger.

Looking Ahead

**PSG** will advance to the semifinals to face the winner of today’s match between **Real Madrid** and **Borussia Dortmund**.
