Marquez to Miss Australia & Malaysia GPs Following Indonesian GP Shoulder Injury
MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez will miss the upcoming Grand Prix races in Australia and Malaysia after sustaining a fracture and ligament injury to his right shoulder during a crash at the Indonesian Grand Prix on the Mandalika International Circuit.
The incident occurred early in the race, following contact with Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia). Initial examination at the track’s medical center revealed a suspected fracture, prompting Marquez to return to his native Spain for further assessment at a hospital in Madrid, including a CT scan.
Subsequent tests confirmed a fracture of the coracoid process – a bony projection of the shoulder blade – alongside a ligament injury in the right shoulder. Ducati confirmed through a statement that studies have ruled out any connection to previous injuries and indicated no notable displacement of the bone.
The medical team at Ruber International Hospital in Madrid has resolute that conservative treatment, involving immobilization of the shoulder, is the most appropriate course of action. Marquez will undergo weekly monitoring to assess his recovery progress.
“Fortunately, the injury isn’t serious, but it’s crucial to follow the recovery plan,” marquez stated. “My aim is to return before the season concludes, but not at the expense of the doctors’ advice. We’ve already achieved both my personal goals and the team’s objectives, so my priority now is a full and proper recovery to return at 100 percent.”
