Manhattan Skyscraper Water Leak Turns Out to be Routine Fire Pump Test

NEW YORK — A huge jet of water was seen shooting out of a Manhattan skyscraper on Thursday, video posted on an online app shows.

The New York City Fire Department said it received a call around 12:15 p.m. about a water leak in a building at Eighth Avenue and West 42nd Street. Video posted on the Citizen app shows what looked like a geyser erupting from the side of the building.

The water had stopped flowing when News 4 cameras arrived at the scene around 12:30 p.m.

Turns out, the scene was nothing to worry about as it was a routine fire pump test under city supervision. The area where the water was coming from was being monitored and was cordoned off.
