A Florida man is facing second-degree murder charges after allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend and then posting photos to Facebook suggesting their relationship continued, authorities said. The lee County Sheriff’s office confirmed the death of Zenaida Alvarez, 39, and the subsequent arrest of her ex-partner, Cuesta de Armas.

Alvarez’s death has deeply impacted her family,who publicly expressed their grief and disbelief at the alleged perpetrator’s behavior following the crime. De Armas is now in custody and faces additional charges related to an attempted escape and assaulting a law enforcement officer.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a scene were they found Alvarez deceased with multiple wounds. the attacker had fled the scene before their arrival.
Hours after the alleged murder,Cuesta de Armas reportedly shared photos of Alvarez on his Facebook account,falsely portraying the continuation of their relationship. A relative of the victim responded to the posts, writing, “My cousin has regrettably died and my family is going through this pain. I don’t know how that man had the courage to upload that photo.”
De Armas was arrested on November 9th while attempting to escape to Hardee County. In addition to the second-degree murder charge, he is also accused of attacking an officer during his escape attempt. The investigation is ongoing.
