Man in Custody After Fake Bomb Scares Cause Nantes Train Station Evacuation

Nantes, January 1. It is mid-morning when a man leaves a suitcase in the Nantes station building. A suspicious package that immediately worries. Police and demining team intervened quickly on site.

They open the suitcase and find blocks connected by electrical cables. A device that looks like a bomb. But everything is wrong: the blocks are made of foam and the wires are not connected to anything. It’s a fake bomb.

A suspect in custody

The same scenario repeated itself Tuesday mid-afternoon. Around 4 p.m., an abandoned suitcase was reported. The bomb squad and the police went to the scene and destroyed the suspicious package. Train traffic resumed around 5:15 p.m.

A suspect was quickly spotted by video surveillance cameras. An investigation was opened and entrusted to the police who placed a man in custody in this case on Tuesday evening. It is unclear if it is linked to which alert it is linked to.
