Man Dies Following Mass Brawl in Gelsenkirchen
Gelsenkirchen, Germany - A 56-year-old man has died from injuries sustained during a large-scale brawl in the Bismarck district of Gelsenkirchen on Sunday evening. Police responded to reports of a violent confrontation involving up to 30 people on Pommernstrasse at approximately 8 p.m., discovering multiple individuals with serious injuries.
At least five people were seriously injured in the incident, with four initially reported to be in life-threatening condition. The victim died in hospital after sustaining a stab wound to the heart, according to reports. Two other victims remain in critical condition. Authorities have arrested six suspects – three men aged 16, 29, and 52, and three women aged 25, 28, and 50 – in connection with the brawl.
The investigation, now led by a dedicated murder commission, indicates that knives, stun guns, and baseball bats were used during the altercation. Police have secured the crime scene and are appealing for witnesses to come forward with information. While initial reports suggested a possible connection to gang activity, authorities have not confirmed this. Investigators are currently exploring the possibility of a pre-existing dispute between two local families as a potential motive, with reports of a similar incident occurring on Friday.
