Man Allegedly Linked to Alameddine Crime Family Denied Bail Over Gun and Drug Charges, Accused of Deception
A 22-year-old man allegedly connected to the fracturing Alameddine crime family has been refused bail after appearing in Bankstown Local Court this week, facing charges of possessing a pistol and commercial drug supply. Ahmed Ghamwari was arrested as part of an investigation by Strike Force Kersley under Taskforce Falcon, a wider probe into the Alameddine network.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts to dismantle organized crime groups in New South Wales and raises questions about the extent to which family members are aware of each other’s alleged criminal activities. Ghamwari’s legal team argued the weapon found on his phone was a replica and sought his release on bail to allow him to care for his mother, but Magistrate Breton ultimately denied bail.
Police allege they discovered a video of Ghamwari with the weapon on his phone. His lawyers, Troy Edwards, SC, and Melissa Huseyin, contended the gun was not real and that Ghamwari was needed at home to support his mother.
Magistrate Breton questioned the discrepancy between Ghamwari’s alleged criminal life and his mother’s apparent unawareness. “[He is] living a dual life which his mum did not know,” the Magistrate stated. “His mum is either being deceived deliberately or he’s managed to hide himself in the shadows and not raise her suspicions.”
Ghamwari is scheduled to reappear in Bankstown Local Court next year. The investigation remains ongoing.
