Massive Russian Airstrike Leaves Kyiv and Ukraine Facing Power Outages, One Child Killed
Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine are reeling from a massive Russian aerial assault involving over 450 drones and at least 30 missiles, resulting in widespread power outages, water supply disruptions, and the tragic death of a seven-year-old girl in Zaporizhia. The attack, described by the Ukrainian army as “massive,” targeted critical infrastructure, including energy facilities and railways, leaving residents without essential services and prompting evacuations.
This latest escalation in aerial bombardments underscores Russia‘s ongoing strategy to cripple Ukraine’s infrastructure ahead of winter, aiming to demoralize the population and disrupt both civilian life and military logistics. The attacks come as Ukraine continues its counteroffensive and as concerns grow about the resilience of the country’s energy grid during the colder months. Repair crews are working to restore power, but the extent of the damage and ongoing security concerns are hindering efforts.
According to ukrainian President Zelensky,Russia launched more than 450 drones and at least 30 missiles in the attack. Reporters from the French news agency AFP in Kyiv reported powerful explosions and confirmed power outages in several areas of the city. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that Russian forces specifically targeted “critical infrastructure,” resulting in nine injuries. Power outages and water supply problems were reported in neighborhoods on the east side of the Dnipro River.
Ukrainian Energy Minister Svitlana Grynchuk stated on Facebook that measures are being taken to limit the consequences of the power outage and that energy experts will begin assessing the damage and carrying out recovery work “as soon as security conditions allow.”
Beyond Kyiv, Russian drones struck targets in the southeastern region of Zaporizhia, tragically killing a seven-year-old girl in an airstrike. In recent weeks, Moscow has intensified its attacks on Ukrainian power plants and railways, reportedly attempting to terrorize the population and disrupt vital supply lines, including those used for military equipment transport.
