‘Bachelorette‘ Star Katie Thurston Reveals Cancer Has Spread to Liver, Remains Optimistic
Former “Bachelorette” star Katie Thurston shared a vulnerable update wiht her followers, revealing her breast cancer has progressed to stage 4 after spreading to her liver. Thurston, 33, first publicly disclosed her breast cancer diagnosis in March, and has been documenting her journey through treatment on social media. Despite the challenging news, she expressed optimism about her prognosis, citing early detection and her specific cancer type.
Thurston’s openness about her health battle resonates with a broad audience, notably those impacted by breast cancer – a disease affecting approximately 1 in 8 U.S. women over the course of their lifetime, according to the American Cancer society. Her willingness to share both the difficulties and hopeful aspects of her treatment provides support and awareness for others navigating similar experiences. Thurston is currently preparing for a “big check-in scan” on July 7 to assess the effectiveness of her medication.”I had a small lump in my breast around the 10’oclock spot,” Thurston wrote in a previous post detailing her initial finding. “I discovered it myself. Thought maybe it was my period [or] maybe it was muscle soreness from working out. But, eventually, this lump never went away.”
In a recent Instagram video, Thurston explained that while a stage 4 diagnosis can be frightening, she feels positive given that she is “triple positive” – meaning her cancer cells have receptors for estrogen, progesterone, and HER2 – and the liver spots were detected early and are relatively small.
“I know stage four can sound very scary, and it can be,” she saeid in the March video.”However, given that I am triple positive and the spots on my liver are fairly small and detected early, I feel very optimistic on my outcome.”
While on vacation in Greece with her husband, comedian Jeff Arcuri, Thurston shared a tearful update on Instagram, preparing for her upcoming scan. She continues to keep her followers informed throughout her treatment.
