US Open Semi-Final Set for Thrilling Clash: Djokovic to Face Alcaraz
NEW YORK – A rematch of last year’s Wimbledon final is set after Novak Djokovic defeated Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in the US Open quarterfinals on Tuesday, and Carlos Alcaraz overcame Jannik Sinner 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. The two tennis titans will face off in the semi-finals at the Billy Jean King National Tennis center.
Djokovic, seeking his fourth US Open title and 24th Grand Slam demonstrated dominant form against Fritz, showcasing his signature precision and resilience. Alcaraz,the defending champion,battled thru a challenging match against Sinner,displaying both power and tactical awareness. Their previous encounter at Wimbledon saw alcaraz claim a five-set victory, denying Djokovic a record-equaling 24th Grand Slam title.
Elsewhere in the tournament, Jessica Pegula (4th, USA) defeated Barbora Krejcikova (62nd, czech Republic) 6-3, 6-3 in the Women’s Singles quarterfinals and will face Aryna Sabalenka (1st, Belarus) in the semi-finals. Sabalenka advanced with a win over Madison keys (60th, Czech Republic) despite battling injuries. Pegula and Sabalenka previously met in the 2023 US Open Finals, where Sabalenka won 7-5, 7-5 to secure her third major championship. Pegula’s father, Terry, and mother, Kim, are entrepreneurs who own the NFL and NHL Buffalo teams; Kim was adopted from Seoul to the United States in 1974. Sabalenka previously won the Australian Open in 2023 and 2024.
in Women’s Doubles, Venus Williams (USA), born in 1980, and partner Leylah Fernandez (Canada) were defeated 1-6, 2-6 by Katarina Siniakova (Czech Republic) and Taylor townsend (US).
