Indigo Girls Cancel Concert After Tour Bus Driver Killed in South Carolina Crash
The Indigo Girls canceled a Saturday night concert in Myrtle Beach after their longtime tour bus driver was killed in a collision involving a disabled tractor-trailer on an interstate in South Carolina, according to thecount.com.
Fatal Crash on Interstate 20
The crash happened at approximately 6 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 in Richland County, near the Fairfield Road exit, the South Carolina Highway Patrol reported. A 2007 Prevost motor coach operated by the tour collided with the trailer of a 2021 Freightliner tractor-trailer that had broken down in the roadway. No one was inside the truck at the time of the impact. The driver, identified by the band only as Kirk, was alone in the motor coach and died. The collision forced authorities to shut down a portion of the interstate for several hours, and the cause remains under investigation, according to local reporting cited by thecount.com.

Indigo Girls Cancel Performance After Bus Driver Dies
The folk-rock duo, consisting of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers, released a statement on Instagram addressing the sudden death of their driver. “The Indigo Girls family is devastated by the sudden loss of our beloved bus driver, Kirk, in a fatal collision early this morning,” the band said. The statement described Kirk as an integral part of their touring operation who “shepherded us safely across thousands of miles, through every season and all kinds of weather.” The cancellation immediately affects the group’s scheduled performance at the Carolina Opry Theater in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Decisions regarding three additional tour dates—Sunday, Oct. 11, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the Wilson Center; Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall in Florida; and Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land, Texas—will be announced in the coming days, the band stated. “We do not make these decisions lightly and we understand the inconvenience this may cause,” the group noted, adding that the tour will resume as soon as they are ready.
