Hezbollah Official Rejects Pressure to Disarm, Calls for National Dialog on Defense Strategy
Beirut – Sheikh Ali Sukanoush, head of Hezbollah’s Executive council, affirmed the group’s refusal to disarm, stating that those who “bet on the surrender of the resistance with pressure and threats…will be more delusional.” sukanoush spoke during a party meeting in Beirut on Thursday, emphasizing that Lebanon‘s strength must not be compromised.
sukanoush reiterated Hezbollah’s call for a national dialogue on a comprehensive defense strategy, arguing it is the “only solution.” He also criticized attempts to weaken the resistance, asserting that Lebanon should not become ”a weak and fragile entity that is easy to allow from abroad and inside.” He further stated the group would not allow its strength to serve the interests of the United States and Israel.
The remarks come amid ongoing American pressure on the Lebanese government to disarm Hezbollah. In August, Hezbollah and Amal movement ministers withdrew from a government meeting in protest against a proposal to disarm the party, following a directive from the Lebanese Council of Ministers to the army to prepare a plan for disarmament by year’s end. Sukanoush noted that continued U.S. aggression in the region confirms the necessity of the resistance.
