The sudden call of the President of France to the Kremlin dictator did not change the position of Paris in the Russian-Ukrainian war.

According to Addad, the main goal of Macron’s conversation with the Russian leader was a discussion of the situation in Iran, because Moscow as a permanent member of the UN Security Council retains a serious impact on Tehran.

At the same time, the minister emphasized that the French president clearly outlined his position on the Ukrainian issue.

“Macron made it clear that the war in Ukraine should be completed. The Ukrainians have already agreed to a truce, but Russia continues to strike daily, exposing obviously unacceptable demands – such as neutrality or demilitarization of Ukraine”– said Addad.

The Minister also denied the assumption that Macron’s telephone conversation with Putin could mean warming relationships between Paris and Moscow.

According to him, the conversation is not an agreement. It is more about the desire to maintain a diplomatic process in order to convey the position of Paris and put pressure on the Kremlin with all possible methods, including economic sanctions.

Addad noted that the United States resumed a dialogue with Russia, and in such conditions the participation of European countries in discussions remains extremely important.
