Google today announced the Pixel 10a, its latest addition to the A-series smartphone lineup, priced at $499 and available for pre-order. The launch, however, has been met with some criticism, with observers noting the device represents a minimal upgrade over last year’s Pixel 9a.
The Pixel 10a features Google’s Tensor G4 chip, the same processor found in the Pixel 9a, and 8GB of RAM. While the phone boasts improvements in camera capabilities and AI functionality, some of the more advanced AI features introduced with the Pixel 10 series – such as Magic Cue and Pixel Screenshots – are not included, reportedly due to the limitations of the existing hardware. According to The Verge, the phone feels more like a “Pixel 9A+” than a significant leap forward.
Google highlights the Pixel 10a’s camera system as a key selling point, emphasizing its ability to capture “vibrant, sharp details” and leverage Google AI for enhanced image quality, even in low-light conditions. The device also includes the Pixel 10’s SOS satellite communications feature, allowing users to send emergency signals in areas without cellular coverage.
The phone offers more than 30 hours of battery life, and up to 120 hours with Extreme Battery Saver enabled. It features a 100% recycled aluminum frame with a satin finish and a composite matte back, available in Lavender, Berry, Fog, and Obsidian colors.
In Germany, the Pixel 10a is available for pre-order starting at €549, or €15.25 per month with a 36-month financing plan. Google is also offering trade-in deals, with potential discounts of up to €435, including a €100 bonus. A bundle deal provides a €75 discount when purchased with Pixel Buds 2a. These offers are valid until March 18th.
Google promises seven years of feature and security updates for the Pixel 10a. The phone’s integrated Gemini AI assistant provides features like Camera Coach, which uses AI models to suggest optimal photo settings.
Google Fi is currently offering a promotion where customers can acquire the Pixel 10a at no cost when switching to their service. This offer is available for a limited time, ending on April 7th.
