Gen Z Steps Up as AI Mentors for Older Workers, New Survey Finds
New York, NY – A new survey reveals a surprising dynamic in today’s workplaces: Gen Z employees are increasingly taking the lead in training their older colleagues on how to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) tools. The findings, released by workspace solutions company International Workplace Group (IWG), indicate that nearly two-thirds of Gen Z respondents are actively coaching their peers in AI adoption.
This intergenerational knowledge transfer is occurring as AI rapidly transforms the professional landscape. The IWG survey highlights a key role for Gen Z – born between 1995 and 2012 – in bridging the AI skills gap and ensuring a smoother transition for all workers. According to IWG CEO Mark Dixon, this support “frequently enough takes different forms, from hands-on guidance to sharing practical tips to integrate AI into daily workflows.” The trend comes as a recent poll also found that 86% of office workers report AI has improved their efficiency, with the average worker saving 55 minutes per day through AI use.
The survey underscores Gen Z’s natural affinity for technology and their willingness to share that expertise. This mentorship is especially significant given broader trends showing Gen Z embracing AI at work and increasingly turning to entrepreneurial ventures and trade schools as pathways to future-proof careers. The findings suggest that Gen Z isn’t just adapting to the AI revolution, but actively shaping it within organizations.
