Jakarta, Indonesia – A joint security force of 1,035 personnel was deployed Wednesday to secure demonstrations held in front of the Indonesian Parliament Building in Central Jakarta. The protests, organized by the Indonesian Women’s Alliance (API), focused on issues of violence against women.
Authorities appealed for public cooperation during the exhibition, requesting motorists avoid the area and urging the public to disregard misinformation. Police maintained a visible presence, with a significant number of female officers (Polwan) among those securing the perimeter. Traffic flow on Jalan Gatot Subroto remained largely unaffected, with no road closures implemented.
“We request the understanding of the community. Safety and comfort together become our priority,” stated Police Spokesperson Susatyo. He also cautioned demonstrators against provocation, emphasizing the importance of unity and verifying information. “Don’t be provoked by negative news. Wisely in receiving information and keep unity,” Susatyo added.
The API protest involved a large group of demonstrators wearing pink clothing and displaying flyers outlining their concerns.The deployment of a substantial security force underscores the Indonesian government’s commitment to managing public demonstrations while ensuring public safety and minimizing disruption. The protests come amid growing national attention to issues of violence against women and calls for increased protection and legal recourse.
