Crossway Medical Association Expands to Los Angeles,Offering Affordable healthcare Options for Korean Families
Los Angeles,CA – As changes to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) create healthcare gaps for many Korean-American families, the Christian non-profit Crossway Medical Association (CHS) is stepping in to provide accessible and affordable medical coverage. Chairman Kyung-Ho Kim recently announced the opening of CHSS first Los Angeles branch and a new system designed to streamline access to care.
“With government subsidies decreasing, premiums are rising, leaving many families struggling to afford necessary medical attention,” explains Chairman Kim. “CHS offers a practical solution, providing regular check-ups and assistance with medical expenses through low monthly dues.” The association has successfully operated for over five years, already assisting numerous Korean families.
Previously, southern California members were served by the Chicago headquarters. The new LA branch allows for more focused and responsive support within the local community. Chairman Kim emphasized the organization’s foundation, stating, “We established CHS to leverage 30 years of experience in pastoral activities and seminary education to offer both religious values and tangible benefits, helping Koreans reduce their medical burdens.”
CHS offers four membership tiers:
Basic: $40/month (plus medicine costs, with discounts through Worldwide RX)
Basic Plus: $80/month ($250 annual credit towards medicine costs, with discounts through Universal RX)
Adventure: $135/month ($500 annual check-up credit, plus coverage for medical expenses, treatment, inspections, emergency room visits, childbirth, surgery, and hospitalization, with discounts through Universal RX)
Complete: $180/month ($500 annual check-up credit, plus comprehensive coverage including medical expenses, treatment, inspections, emergency room visits, childbirth, surgery, and hospitalization, with discounts through Universal RX)
All programs benefit from discounted prescription costs through a partnership with Universal RX.
A New system for Direct Billing:
CHS is poised to further enhance its services with the implementation of a direct billing system. “We are building a network of participating medical providers and introducing automatic billing,” Chairman Kim stated.”This will allow our members to utilize the korean doctors and hospitals they prefer, much like traditional insurance plans, eliminating the need for upfront payments.”
CHS aims to provide a medical sharing ministry, offering an alternative to ACA coverage and potentially exempting members from associated tax penalties. Ultimately, the organization’s mission is to improve healthcare access and promote proactive health management within the Korean-American community.
