A man was shot and killed in broad daylight in Puerto banus, a popular marina in Marbella, Costa del Sol, on Friday at approximately 1:30 PM local time. Authorities report the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Costa del Sol Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The shooting underscores a growing trend of gang-related violence plaguing the Costa del Sol, a region increasingly attracting organized crime groups from across Europe, particularly from the Nordic countries. Marbella has gained the nickname “the United Nations of Crime” due to the influx of international criminal activity. This incident adds to a surge in violent crime in the province of Malaga, with data released last month by Spain’s Ministry of the Interior revealing a meaningful increase in violent deaths, attempted homicides, and kidnappings.
While authorities have not officially confirmed the victim’s or the alleged shooter’s nationality, sources suggest both were Swedish. The escalating violence has prompted concern among residents and authorities alike, as the Costa del Sol remains a major tourist destination.Recent statistics indicate a dramatic rise in criminal activity in the region. In the first six months of this year, Malaga province recorded 14 violent deaths, 29 attempted homicides and murders, and double the number of kidnappings reported during the same period last year. It is indeed estimated that over 100 organized crime groups are currently operating along the costa del Sol.
