British Yoga Teacher Arrested on Thai Island for Alleged ‘Tantric Sex’ Classes
KOH PHANGAN, Thailand - A British woman has been arrested on the Thai island of Koh Phangan for allegedly running “tantric sex” classes advertised as yoga sessions, local authorities confirmed. The 40-year-old instructor, identified as Natalia Shchetinina, was taken into custody after police discovered promotional materials and a QR code linking to her classes, which reportedly cost £10 (approximately $12.60 USD) per session.
The arrest highlights growing concerns over inappropriate activities marketed under the guise of wellness tourism on the island, a popular destination known for its Full Moon party and increasing number of yoga retreats. koh Phangan district chief Suriya Bunphon has ordered a crackdown on similar operations, emphasizing the need to maintain public decency and protect the island’s reputation. Shchetinina faces potential charges related to public indecency and operating an illegal business.
According to reports from The thaiger, police seized pamphlets advertising the classes and the QR code featuring Shchetinina’s image. The classes were allegedly promoted as a form of tantric yoga, but authorities claim they involved sexual activity.
This arrest follows the recent detention of an Israeli couple caught engaging in sexual activity at Wang Sai Waterfall on Koh Phangan, footage of which went viral on social media. The couple was arrested after police, accompanied by immigration officers, located them at their accommodation and they admitted to the act. They are facing legal proceedings for committing an indecent act in public.
Both incidents underscore a broader effort by Thai authorities to address and prosecute public displays of indecency, particularly in tourist hotspots.Officials have stated that those found guilty could face fines and deportation. The investigation into Shchetinina’s activities is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the case progresses.
